Bumbershoot

To escape, it hurls itself out the window. Gets caught in a tangle of branches. Can’t inch up. Can’t drop down. When the branch that cradles it breaks, it bounces down the street, the bough somersaulting after. From the frying pan into the fire—there’s no escape.
