The Sky Weeps too

by Aaliyah El-Amin

The rain was in pain this stormy, somber night, laden with remorse in every droplet. A mother, unharmed but hardly breathing, sat on the curb, stunned by mingled metal and debris, staring at a window that still held yesterday's smug marks of a second birthday and a short-lived joy of chocolate ice-cream cake. The rain poured on, letting the wind howl its sorrow. It had been the rain's ideal to show just how big and mighty it could be, sending the car hydroplaning off the road and into a tree. The tornado, unimpressed, was still debating if it wanted to reign terror on the small town in response. But, upon witnessing the mother's despair, closed its eye in mourning, experiencing empathy for the first time.
