A Lesson About Obstacles

by Debbie Mason

“Obstacles come our way all the time,” the man admonished in that puffed up way that preachers do. “Some big, some small and I know a few may seem downright daunting and insurmountable. But you, yourself, must choose whether to tackle them head on like a man and find a way around them or like a coward and simply retreat and admit defeat. It’s all up to you. At the end of the day, an obstacle is just an obstacle; nothing more, nothing less.” Having listened patiently to the man in order to get the few coins now tinkling in the bottom of his can, Harold promptly leaned forward, hocked up a gem and spat on the man’s Sunday shoes.
