Scissors

by Tricia Knoll

I tried this morning to count how many scissors slumber in drawers at my house. I quit when I remembered garden shears. Grandmother’s dress-making scissors with the gold worn off the handle cut the dotted-swiss for my dress when I was six. Three inexpensive kitchen scissors for pizza slices, herbs, twine and paper. Tiny flying-stork embroidery scissors with pointed beaks in silver and gold. So much art and purpose for tools in my drawers; so little in these government cuts.
