My Date at the Reptile House

In the slithery dimness, I ask Raven, Is your hair naturally blue? She peers at me as if I were a snake. The animals are dangerously beautiful; the Angolan Python, the Dying Poison Dart Frog, the Green Tree Python. When we arrive at the alligator pool, she extracts her arm from around my waist, and nudges me closer to the enclosure. Go ahead, see how close you can get. Don’t worry, she smiles, it’ll grow back.
