Tightrope Love

by Lorette C. Luzajic

Whipped in white, and wavering, I wade toward the one who wants to tame me. I keep my eyes on his wobbling top hat and think about cake. This too, will fall to pieces, crash below the canopy and into the real world. There will be a few precarious thrills to weather first, before our fall from glory: the tiger cage, the trapeze of desire. And then, he will be a vanishing act and I will be Enormous Norma on the carousel, fattened on corn dogs and cotton candy. The sideshow, juggling clowns.
