The Whispers of Butterflies

The voices of the butterflies had always been louder than those of people. As a child, Vanessa ignored her human playmates and would often be found in fields of wildflowers where her winged friends could flutter from buttercup to daisy. Her laughter would fade with summer's last bloom, but spring brought joy and new winged beauties to whisper their stories. Yet her smiles vanished when the butterflies flew into the golden light. Vanessa didn't know what awaited the souls of the dead. She could only promise to cherish their stories and send them off with kind words swaddled in love.
