The Skid

by Bill Lapham

Jimmy MacRandall-Caster rather enjoyed driving on overcast, rainy days. He had burned the gas to run the engine to attain highway speeds and had applied the brakes when he saw the crash happen in his lane just ahead. With his wheels locked up, he had no control over the friction between the rubber of his new tires and the wet road. The woman dangling by her seat belt out the driver's side door of the mangled wreckage ahead put her arms up in front of her face as if she was going to stop Jimmy's car from contributing to the problem. Jimmy was smiling because he chose not to let a horrific situation he had no control over ruin his sweet disposition, that is, until his air bag smashed his glasses into his face. That pissed him off.

6S

Bill Lapham made his first contribution to 6S sometime in the late-2000s. His master's thesis was a compilation of 6S stories he had written over several years. He used 500 sheets of paper to print them all.
