The shadow on the stair is moving towards me. Or perhaps it is moving away. When is stepping down a step-up? I could reach for it; I could fall. One never knows about shadows. One never knows at all.

Best you watch yo steps, them shadows is some shady characters. Glad to see your shadowy six stepped out into the light of day Katie*Girl!
I dig how the closing is practically a couplet. Insightful piece, Kate.
Nice images Kate!
Nice closing line -
The brevity of this piece left me breathless. Very impressive to see such depth in so few words. Bravo Kate.
It is uncertainty we must learn to live with, for only the shadow knows the quest for certainty often leads to lifeless stagnation.

Short and shady. I love a good shadow six. The repetition at the end was perfect.
KatieMae, your writings... insightfulness...you-niqueness in all you give the reader...love it.
Ah...but the shadow knows...
It's all about light and shadow, AbKat and what's in between. Great read!
Life is a huge risk but worth it. Risk it.
Super Six AK... and pithy. I didn't know you could be so pithy - it becomes you ;^)
Happy synching... Peace, Linda
It is not only the shadow who knows, Kate...you sure know how to make short and sweet hard to beat. Perfect combination of brevity and meaning. Well done!!!
you are not only ubiquitous you are mellifluous
Good to see you here, Kate!
Ah, The Shadows.. They were a great band... Nice one, Cap'n Kate!
Ah... Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?? ... THE SHADOW...
Kate, I dig it. Sparse and interesting. Creepy and telling. Very well done...

Kate,
Brief, poetic, and insightful. Carry a flashlight. ;)
Dark. :)
I loved the last line and the way it rhymed with fall.
My word verification is "Sters"... how weird is that?
I read this last night on my iphone... then reread it on my computer screen this morning. Amazing what context does for a piece. It had a nice feel on the 'big screen' that was totally lost in a 2x3" peep-hole. And like one of the comments said, "... The Shadow knows."
I stand in the light when I follow the steps of such grand writers above. Thank*you, quite humbly, thank*you.

Deep, Kate...and meaningful.
Sparse. Scary.
Shall think of this all evening.
A salute!
