by Kate Kaminski
You are the one who came to Aunt Betty’s doorway that night with your overheated tales of mother and father buried beneath the pavement in the middle of Lincoln Avenue. The very idea! It was two a.m. and she was in her nightie, the pink nylon one, sleeveless, with the wee satin bow at the neck. You are the one who whispered in my ear, told me to get the knives, barricade the door. We slept with their edges ready. We scared them all away.
