He had a secret. She had one, too: knowing his secret without him knowing. Keeping his unkept secret wore him thin at the edges. Knowing why his edges were thin wasn’t enough to keep her own edges from wearing thin, too. All those thin edges scraped against one another and blistered and bled, leaving no choice but to keep their sore edges apart for a while, maybe even forever. He thought he knew why but only she did.
