Still Tender Voice

by Dale Patterson

Caught in the maelstrom she no longer feels like herself. She insists that the knot on her earlobe is an alien implant, a voice no more than a hum translating her words into numbers. God is now one, two and three. He gifts her a lapis lazuli necklace to help guide her soul and open her heart. Drinking coffee and speaking with friends she constructs a sugar cube pyramid that vibrates and lites cigarettes. Leaving the diner she informs their waitress, Proxima Centauri, closest star to earth, is four and a quarter light-years away.
