When in Rome

by Marian Wood

Whatever happened to the Australian man I met so long ago? We shared a bus ride in Rome, striking up one of those touristy converstions that are fun, but never terribly deep. I liked his looks: blond and bearded. I told him that I was going to Florence the next day, and there he was at the train station lifting my suitcases from my hands. He carried my luggage to the train and left. Not even a good-bye.

Marian Wood still wonders what would have happened if she hadn't boarded that train to Florence. It would have made a great movie.
