Something's Amiss

by Jacqueline Doyle

Now how's that for a two-word sentence suggesting a world gone awry, a universe out of kilter, disorder undoing the previously orderly: something, in a word, about to happen, or something that's happened about to be discovered, leading to something about to happen. More words, some complications maybe—or simply, something amiss. So once something happens, what's next? And after that, how does it end? Does it end, is balance restored, or do we continue to live in a universe where something is always amiss, a little off? Leaving us to start all over again: "Something's ominously awry."
