"Flash" Fiction

I had to hand it to him. He lit the firework and it blew his arm off. He stood there in shock for no more than three seconds. It just enough time for the smoke to spurt to the ground. And, as the blood clouded into the sky he calmly told us, “Undeniably, this is a life-defining moment.” As we all ran around him screaming, he had the kind of grin we all wanted but were too afraid to ignite.

Matthew Moore is a Junior at Seton Hill University in Pennsylvania. He is working towards a nonexistent degree in Creative Living, but a compromise is in the works to give him a degree in Creative Writing.
