“Give it another shot, right there in the head.” Why? “Because the damn thing’s suffering!” But it’s cruel. “Naw, the cruel part’s over. Now, it’s just business.”

So raw.
Thanks. :)
Very effective in its simplicity. Great six, Rae.
Nice 6 Rae. I like the way you pack so much conflict into such a short piece.
Thanks Michael. These are so fun to write, like puzzles. Such a great venue.
Thanks tnt :)
Summing it up in six short sentences. Nice work!
Very cool.
Thanks for all the comments, everyone.
I find brevity in its sharpest form, a fun and worthwhile exercise. Unfortunately, my short stories, too often, fight me on that point. :)
Moving - This story made me consider how much easier emotionally it is to kill from a distance (or to have someone else do the dirty work) than it is to do the same deed in proximity ourselves - It doesn't matter whether we're talking about hunting, war or what's for dinner. I recalled a time a mouse trap didn't finish the job and I had to screw up the courage and spine to bludgon the life out of a suffering mouse myself. I felt like shit.
Your story is powerful. Good work.
