Problems

by Stephen Daniel Lewis

During the same month they put the flag on the post someone began burning buildings on the south side of town. Most of us tried to contain certain amounts of differing calmness. The man living below me had sex with his window open so he could smell the smoke and I grew accustomed to a headache while his girlfriend tried to drown me in decibels. After a few days I learned to follow her pattern of intonation. I constructed large-scale logarithmic graphs to better understand her dilemma. The older woman across the hall stocked up on bottled water and different flavors of soup.
