Polly Dactyly

by Sophie Playle

Polly was born with six fingers on each hand. You’d have thought it made playing the piano easy, but her fingers just got tangled. She didn’t have a middle finger to display to any name-callers. Gloves didn’t fit. It wasn’t that great really. But when her new-born son grabbed hold of the extra finger on her left hand and sucked with his warm, gumless mouth, only then did she realise that she was simply more complete than most people.
