The Illustrator

by Suzanne Baran

Subdued and serene, his eyes feast on the crowd consuming their spirits with haste. It’s a sea of faces clinking glasses and sucking face. These transparent beings masquerade as players, kings and queens, sexpots and swankers. His kaleidoscopic mind captures their emptiness. Art is born on canvas through his piercing gaze and careful paint strokes. Always observing those who cannot see themselves, he loses sight of himself.
