by Christopher Goodwin
Preparing my grave took time. Six months it took to gather all the soil and newspapers and cigarette butts and cat hair and debt. Those things that are my death, those things that cradle, devour and inter me. My pallbearers are useless but beloved — Milo, Theo and the others — faceless strangers and faceless friends. All I can do is pray for a last end. All beginnings I've squandered.
