After Cuba

by Ben Tanzer

We went to Cuba because my wife thought it would save our marriage, somehow rekindling whatever it was that had died for me. She said it would be exotic, and illicit, but the food was bad and the hotels were dirty. When we got home my wife said, “So, what’s next sport-o, counseling?” and I said, “I don’t know, are we trying to save this thing or wind it down peacefully?” “What do you want?” she said. “I want to call it quits,” I said. And that was that.
