We went to Cuba because my wife thought it would save our marriage, somehow rekindling whatever it was that had died for me. She said it would be exotic, and illicit, but the food was bad and the hotels were dirty. When we got home my wife said, “So, what’s next sport-o, counseling?” and I said, “I don’t know, are we trying to save this thing or wind it down peacefully?” “What do you want?” she said. “I want to call it quits,” I said. And that was that.
Ben Tanzer is the author of the novel Lucky Man, which Time Out Chicago described as “honest and often hilarious,” and Willamette Weekly compared to "a Rubik’s cube on acid.” Check out his blog and catch him live this summer at Coachella for the Wham! reunion show.
